New York City Celebrity Stylist Mark Garrison
comes to teach UFO Salon and Spa

UFO Salon and Spa was very excited to have the rare opportunity to learn from New York City Celebrity Stylist Mark Garrison. Mark Garrison has worked with the hair industry's best, including Yosh Toya, Jean Louis David, and Frederic Fekkai. Every month, top beauty and fashion publications including Vogue, In Style, & Harper's Bazaar magazines seek out his advice and feature his cutting edge styles. His extensive portfolio of celebrity clients range from top models featured in high fashion advertisements to movie stars such as Sandra Bullock and Isabella Rossellini. The Mark Garrison Salon is a revered New York City beauty institution where Mark and his team dedicate themselves to outstanding client services and the latest ideals of appearance.
Mark Garrison came in to educate UFO Salon and Spa’s hairdressers with his innovative haircutting techniques. His main goal was to instill in each stylist the ability to identify with each individual client, to create a personalized look based on understanding of the client's lifestyle, along with the use of the artistic eye for proportion and sensitivity to the particular nature of their hair. UFO produced 3 clients to be the models for the class. Mark Garrison observed their hair texture, head shape, face shape, overall appearance and cut each model’s hair accordingly. The result: a stunning haircut that was 100% customized for the distinct individual sitting in his chair. UFO Salon and Spa’s hairdressers were intrigued, their creativity and imaginations piqued by his sheer talent and dexterity. The experience was moving, stimulating, and inspiring. It provided a different aspect to haircutting; a more intuitive and involving process. Most importantly, it reminded our stylists of why they chose to do what they do: a passion for beauty and creativity. The hairdressers at UFO strive to consistently improve their artistic and technical ability to create the latest shapes and textures, unique to each client’s characteristics. Thank you, Mark Garrison- for teaching us, for showing us, for inspiring us!

Delta Gamma "Spa Night" at UFO Salon and Spa

For the past 11 years and counting the Rutgers University community hosts a wonderful fundraiser benefiting the Embrace Kids Foundation. This event is called the “Rutgers University Dance Marathon”. The Embrace Kids Foundation is a non-profit organization that benefits families with children who have cancer and blood disorders. During this event, individuals are sponsored to dance for 32 hours straight to benefit this amazing cause. Various organizations including sororities, fraternities, religious organizations, and countless others work extremely hard to raise the most money. This year the women’s organization that raised the most money was Delta Gamma Sorority, raising a grand total of $33,000! Rutgers University Dance Marathon 2010 raised an outstanding total of $378,000!
In honor of the hard work by Delta Gamma Sorority, UFO Salon and Spa elected to give them a well deserved “Spa Night” at our salon. This Spa Night included Haircut and Styles, Blowouts, Manicures, Paraffin Hand Treatments and Hand Massages, Head, Neck, and Shoulder Massages, and Waxing. In addition to the treatments, we provided the women with refreshments while we got to know them and they got to know us. The women came in on a Monday night when we are typically closed and were met by our employees who volunteered their time to give them the kind of pampering they really deserved for their hard work and selflessness.
We here at the UFO Salon and Spa greatly enjoyed their company and gave our best efforts to make sure these girls felt comfortable, pampered and happy. As this was the first time we held such an event, we felt compelled to post pictures from this memorable evening. We hope the Sisters at Delta Gamma found this night to be as satisfying and pleasurable as we did. We would like to show our appreciation to the Rutgers University community as a whole for their significant accomplishment towards aiding the children suffering from cancer and blood disorders. Kudos to you all!
